Many people think that learning the French language is a difficult task to complete. It is not as difficult as one may think though as it is much easier than one could possibly imagine. I am not saying it is easy, but as long as one has the mindset that it can and will get done, then they are already halfway there. There are many similarities between the English and French language, at least for the most part. A lot of the words that one would use on a daily basis are the same, with the exception of one extra “s” at the end of some of the words. For example, words such as important, possible, restaurant, minute, and excellent are all used in both of the languages. In fact, if one is fluent in the English language, chances are they are already fluent in half of the French language.
The best and easiest way to start learning the French language is to first learn all of the basic words and phrases that one would use on a daily basis. Words and phrases such as Bonjour (Hello), Merci (Thank you), Au revoir (Goodbye), and S’il vous plaĆ®t (Please) are some of the basic ones that everyone should first learn. After one has learned the basic vocabulary of the language, then it will be much easier to eventually learn the entire language.
One does not need to study for hours in order to learn how to speak and understand the language. All that one needs to do is study a little bit every day, even for only about 15-20 minutes a day. Those 15-20 minutes of everyday studying will get one much farther than one long study session per week. Those short study sessions can be spent listening to some French music, watching some French videos, short stories, or even just practicing some words and phrases. One should also not be afraid of making some mistakes or saying something incorrectly. A lot of people tend to get very disappointed in themselves if they make a mistake and choose not to say something at all rather than risk it. It is normal for one to get confused with the grammar from time to time as well, especially since everyone has their own unique learning style. All that one needs to realize is that it can take a while to fully understand the language.
The most important thing about learning the French language is that one has fun and enjoys the process itself. Learning the French language can be very rewarding and fulfilling for one, considering all the doors that it can open for them. Not only will one be able to communicate with a whole new group of people, but one can also travel to France and at least somewhat understand what is happening there. The French language can be the gateway to many great things in one’s personal and professional life.
